Understanding the Midpoint Formula

The midpoint of a line segment is the point that divides the segment into two equal parts. If you know the midpoint (M) and one endpoint (E1), you can find the second endpoint (E2) using these formulas:

X coordinate: E2x = 2 × Mx - E1x
Y coordinate: E2y = 2 × My - E1y

Example Calculation

If the midpoint is at (5, 7) and one endpoint is at (2, 3), the second endpoint would be:

X coordinate: 2 × 5 - 2 = 10 - 2 = 8
Y coordinate: 2 × 7 - 3 = 14 - 3 = 11
Second endpoint: (8, 11)
