What is your "freedom number"?

A widely-used rule of thumb (the 4% rule) says you can safely withdraw about 4% of your invested portfolio each year in retirement. So the amount you need to be financially free is roughly 25 × your annual spending. If you need $40,000 a year, your freedom number is about $1,000,000. This calculator works out how your monthly investing grows toward that number, and the age you'll hit it.

The two levers

You reach freedom faster by investing more each month or needing less to live on. Drag the sliders and watch the green line meet your goal sooner — that's the whole game.

Is the 4% rule guaranteed?

No — it's a well-known guideline based on historical data, not a promise. Real returns and inflation vary. Use this to understand the path, not as financial advice.

Is my data private?

Yes — everything runs in your browser and is never uploaded.
