What is OCR?

OCR (Optical Character Recognition) reads the letters in an image and turns them into text you can edit, copy and search. It's perfect for digitising notes, copying text from a screenshot, or pulling words out of a scanned page. This tool runs the recognition on your own device — your image never leaves your browser, which matters for anything private.

First use note: the OCR engine (a few megabytes) downloads to your browser the first time, then it's cached.

Is my image uploaded?

No. The recognition happens locally in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.

Why isn't the text perfect?

OCR accuracy depends on image quality. Use a sharp, straight, high-contrast image and pick the correct language for best results.
