When to resize an image

Resizing changes the pixel dimensions of an image — useful for fitting profile-picture requirements, meeting an upload's maximum dimensions, creating thumbnails, or reducing a huge camera photo down to a web-friendly size. Smaller dimensions also mean a smaller file.

Keep the aspect ratio

With "Lock aspect ratio" on, changing the width automatically adjusts the height (and vice-versa) so your image keeps its proportions and never looks squashed or stretched. Turn it off only if you deliberately need a specific non-proportional size.

Is the image uploaded?

No — resizing happens in your browser with the HTML canvas. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Can I make an image larger?

Yes, but enlarging beyond the original size can look soft, since there's no extra detail to add.
