Word & Character Counter
Paste or type your text and watch the counts update live — words, characters, sentences, paragraphs and reading time.
Why use a word counter?
Whether you're writing an essay with a strict limit, a meta description that must stay under 160 characters, a tweet, or an article you want readers to finish, knowing your counts matters. This tool updates instantly as you type so you always know exactly where you stand.
How reading time is estimated
Reading time assumes an average adult reading speed of about 200 words per minute. It's a useful estimate for blog posts and articles — many publishers display it to set reader expectations.
Is my text private?
Completely. Nothing you type is sent to a server. All counting happens in your browser, and your text disappears the moment you close the tab.
How are words counted?
Any sequence of non-space characters separated by whitespace counts as one word — the same way most word processors do it.
Does it work offline?
Once the page has loaded, the counting works without an internet connection because it runs locally.
